In Conversation with His Excellency Mr Anote Tong, former President of The Republic of Kiribati. Held at NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore.

We were honored to hear from his Excellency himself his passion as well has his first hand effects of climate change in Kiribati.

Climate change has been a persistent issue that has been overlooked by world leaders.

The the problem is very real in Kiribati as rising sea levels they experience sunk their atolls and are at a higher risk than ever of losing their homes and livelihood. Besides losing the homes and culture of the unique Pacific nation, the I-Kiribati (people of Kiribati) would also lose their livelihood of supplying 60% of the world’s tuna.

Mr Anote Tong suggest a commodity future index for tuna. Maybe then the world will feel the pinch of global warming.

After his talk, we had an opportunity to have a short chat with him. We even share our proposed project on measuring rising water level data to Tahiti Government with his Excellency.
