This year in the 2018 Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation and Technology Exposition (IPITEx), there are about 2000 entries from about 30 countries competing. Making it a challenge to determine the award winners.
After much consideration, we concluded the winners are:
Genius Honor Award
[A Brushless DC Motor with Only One Electromagnetic Coil] Jiao Xiaotian, Jiao Jian from China
We were told that magnet has 2 poles, oppose poles attract and like poles repel. Chinese Scientist, Jiao Xiaotian, doesn’t think so. He was posted to a remote research center in China after he graduated. He spent almost 50 years researching machinery before retired. During that period, he has been thinking abut magnet. A few years, shortly after he retired, together with Jiao Jian, they discovered that if they place the magnets at a certain angle, it will not attract nor repel each other. They called it the neutral position. With that, they invented a few inventions based on their discovery, including a single coil brushless DC motor. They showed us their working prototype. It is indeed impressive.
